Hi, so I recently had a surgery and had a month off work to recover. I am only able to work 10 hours a week. I thought I would get some sort of sick pay while I was off but my employer informed me I'm not. I get esa and pip. I have been scared to ask dwp incase it messes up any of the money I'm getting. I would really appreciate any help with this. I'm not very familiar with any systems or what I can do. Thank u in advance

Hi @Lox, welcome to the community

I just want to first clarify that PIP is not affected by earnings at all. So you don't need to worry about that.
Can I ask what reasons your employer says you are not getting any sick pay? I know there's a limit to how much sick pay someone can receive depending on the length of the absence but you said you only had a month off?0 -
I don't work enough hours to be entitled to it... I did have holidays in the period they used to gauge my average hours but I think I'm just below the limit maybe...0

I see, do you earn less than £242 a week? If I remember correctly that's the threshold for Class 1 National Insurance and that's a requirement for Statutory Sick Pay. I would still look over your contract and maybe contact Citizen's Advice as they will have advisors who can look more in-depth for you. I'm afraid this really is not an area of expertise for me. You could also try ACAS too, they are a free advice service for employees and employers.
Regarding telling the DWP and your benefits, what exactly are you concerned about if it's okay to ask? You're getting less money than you thought right?

Yeah I earn less than that. Thank u for your help.
Im not sure if I would be entitled to anything more than what I get. I'm not sure if I should tell them I've had surgery... I'm very sorry I'm struggling to be clear enough at the moment.
At the moment, I'm resigning myself to the loss of earnings but I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to help myself xxx0
