Hi, my name is teresa2603! Looking for Advice on how to Apply for a Post 16 setting

I have 2 children with SEN, Lewis is 15 diagnosed with severe Learning difficulties and Adhd, and is in a Special Need Setting. Aiden is 10, diagnosed with significant learning difficulties and ADHD.
Looking for Advice on how to Apply for a Post 16 setting for Lewis. We have had his year 11 review and I was asked to name a setting for him. But I'm unsure if I have to fill out an application form for that setting and if so what is the deadline date for it

Hiya @teresa2603 and a big welcome from me too!
I can see Beaver has already given some top advice, but I just wanted to stop in and say hi. If you need anything else, please just ask. Or if you wanted to have a chat or play some games, we have the very lovely Coffee Lounge and Games Room.0 -
@theresa2603 I am guessing your eldest son who is almost post 16 has an EHCP, as you have had a review, you are well within your right to look at post 16 settings now who you feel could meet your young persons needs, does the setting your young person attends now not provide post 16 provision?
If they do and you are happy with this setting, you are quite well within your right to name this setting as your preferred setting to continue post 16 - be mindful that the LA will try and amend the plan as they also consult with mainstream settings, if the mainstream setting states that yes they can meet need they could possibly remove the specialist type setting from his plan which for the LA is more cost effective - my advise as a parent who has recently gone down this route with post 16 is to actually approach colleges etc or alternative post 16 providers and email them a copy of your son's EHCP to see if they can meet needs and to have a conversation with them even ask if you can visit the setting to see if you feel it is appropriate to your son's needs and one which can support him throughout his year 12 and beyond education.
Usually the EHCP coordinator will send your son's plan to colleges etc including mainstream colleges to see if they are able to meet needs, I would also ask your ECHP coordinator what settings they are going to consult with. Hope this helps - but IPSEA is a great advice service.0
