Possible pension credit?

Could anyone offer some insight.
my mum is 74 and has never claimed pension credit as after general googling it appeared she wasn’t entitled. However after searching on here I used the benefits calculation and it is saying she is indeed eligible.

I just wanted to clarify a few things
she has a weekly state pension of £179.39
Weekly private pension of £57.03
and standard rate pip of £62.86
savings of £18,000
after using the calculator it said she was entitled to x amount (forget now) of guaranteed pension credit
x amount of savings pension credit
and. £20 odd pound council tax allowance.
ive read you cannot get council tax help if you have over £16,000 in savings so am a little confused.
When we looked into this before it said she wasn’t entitled but I’m assuming that didn’t take into account of her receiving pip which she is. Am I right assuming she would be entitled to extra pension credit allowance as pip is in payment.
she owns her own home and lives alone and doesn’t care for anyone.
many thanks for any advice.

Assuming no one is claiming either carers allowance or carers element of Universal Credit for looking after her then there should be some entitlement based on the information you gave. If someone is claiming either of those for looking after her then it's unlikely there would be any entitlement. When claiming Guaranteed Pension Credit there's no maximum saving limit. For every £500 or part thereof over £10,000 there's a £1/week deduction. If claiming Pension credit then she will be entitlement to full council tax reduction. She can apply online here. https://www.gov.uk/pension-credit/how-to-claim it may take quite a few months for a decision. There were backlogs some months ago but haven't heard anything for a while now.

Oh that’s great news, thank you so much, no one is claiming carers for her. I’ll sort that claim out for her today, many thanks for your time and knowledge.1

You're welcome. The reason for the entitlement is because she would be entitled to Severe disability Premium in with the calculation which increases her maximum weekly entitlement.

Just wanted to add a quick update, mum has had her award for pension credit.
A really quick turn around, and great for mum to have a few extra pennies.
Thank you again for your help.2 -
