Iam passionate for disability community, because iam a mother of a special needs young man, 22 years old, with a condition of cerebral palsy. His major challenge is to access communication aids to support his communication. I have tried to contact the area speech therapist for a referal but keeping in the queue for about 6 months. My son is frustrated as he wishes to communicate but is not well understood somtimes. It causes alot of anxiety to him. Any advice to this challenge will be very welcome.

Hi there @Nsubugaaziida49 and welcome to the community. How are you today?
I'm sorry to hear about your sons frustration, that must be very difficult for them and for you too. We have a top CP category led by the lovely @Richard_Scope who I'm sure will also give you a warm welcome and hopefully the community will be able to advise you more.

Hi Aziida, my son was 26 yesterday and has CP and no speech. He uses a communication aid and a spelling board and has done since he was very young and therefore he was able to go to mainstream school and is now a student. But it is hard work and very frustrating for him and you if he cannot express himself in a way that people can understand. Having to wait so long for a referral is awful...so in the meantime have a look here for some useful information, in case you have not already
