Hi guys,

I hope all is well.

I have just bought a new Mac and I am trying to back up my files from my old machine onto an external hard drive using drag and drop technique.

I know this is the most easiest way going forward, although I have files on my old Mac and current one from my old Windows PC, each time I try and go to back it up, it prompts me for an Administrative password, during transfer. I am guessing that could this be due to something in connection with it being a different format?
Does anyone know how I could get past this please? I could perhaps try and back up my Mac files first?

Thank you in advance.

Sorry I don't fully understand the question

Do you mean when you drag a file from your old computers onto the hard drive, it asks for a password?

Does it do this with every file or just some files?

    Hi Mustang 66,
    Apologies about that.
I am trying to drag and drop my files from my Mac to my external hard drive.

I will try it again today and see how I get on and let you know.

    All sorted :-)

I don’t know what I was doing wrong the first time around? Probably selected the wrong partition format. Play and learn

glad to see you fixed the issue.
