Haircuts was mentioned earlier in the How's your day? discussion and I thought it would be interesting to hear from more people about it!
So, tell us about your haircuts.
I only get my hair cut every 6 months. I do go to a nice salon for it though as I have had bad experiences at barbers in the past. My main issue is actually I find my hair being played with/groomed very relaxing and I can struggle to stay awake I do like how my hair is afterwards
How often do you get your hair cut?
Do you cut your own hair?
Are there any issues with haircuts for you?
How about things about it you enjoy

As mentioned before, I tend to goto the barbers for a haircut down the road from me. I wouldn't dare try cut my own hair as I would butcher it and I do like the results after my hair has been cut properly. However I hate hate with a passion having my hair cut. I am sensative to noise and touch so can't stand the noise of the hair clippers. The noise goes through me and I sit there cringing the whole time trying not to move. Also I don't like being touched so its a sensory overload for me to have my hair done.I'm also not good at holding conversations so don't like the usually small talk they give you when cutting your hair.Overall its very stressful and overloading for me, so I put it off till my hair starts to annoy me then have it done. I havn't had my hair cut since the end of January so needs doing now. I just have to prepare myself and put myself in a good frame of mind before I go and gear myself for it. I'm going when I get paid next week, wish me luck haha2

I do dread the small talk a little. I try to get the same person each time I go to the salon who I know doesn't mind cutting my hair without talking.
Good luck next week! Maybe treat yourself to something afterwards as a reward for getting through it?1 -
I cut my own hair because there are a few different things I find hard about going to get it cut. It's actually really easy but maybe because my hair is a bit longer, I don't think I'd be able to do like a "grade 3" or whatever they call it. I like having longish hair, not like really long that you could make a ponytail from it, but quite long, kind of like your avatar I guess or maybe a little bit longer
My Dad did something once that I found funny
He was in Cambridge for work and had some time to kill so was wandering round the city and he saw a barber offering "student haircuts" for cheaper than the normal price. He went in and asked what a student haircut was supposed to be, because he was happy to have hair like a student if it was cheaper. Surprisingly they did give him a haircut1 -
I've cut my own hair for the past 5 years. I do just have a 'grade 3' all over using clippers.
I can't stand the feeling of hair tickling my ears or when it gets long enough to have it's own movement (feels like insects crawling on my head!) so I tend to do it roughly every 6-8 weeks when it starts to irritate.
My hair started thinning & receding in my early 20's though, so there's no way to make it to look good any more. Purely function over form now.1 -
My hair sorta reaches the top of my shoulder at it's longest normally. I've kinda had it this way since I was 12. I hated having "short, no.2 back and sides" or whatever it was before 12, it's been long enough I don't really remember.

I use the PitBull Pro Skull Shaver. Nice clean shave. Plus the added benefit of my wife not digging the clippers into my head
Like Overly Anxious mine started thinning in my 20's ... too much peroxide being blonde looking like David Sylvian in the '80's.
... still don't know if it's a compliment when my GP said I've got the right shaped head to be bald1 -
@Jimm_Scope
Same here!!
I was always made to have a grade 3 when I was little because my hair is thick so if it grew it just went a bit afro-like. However when I was like 13 I was allowed to not have it cut and I found that once you get past that stage where it just goes mad - that only lasts a few months - then it behaves again

I'm not usually one to fret too much about my looks, but my hair is one that can give me bother. So whenever it is cut I do get a little mood boost like yourself @Beaver79.

I go every eight weeks, as I hate hair going near my eyes. Sadly, I can only have a dry cut, gutted that I miss out on the wash & head massage, as that was the bit I loved, like you, @Jimm_Scope, so relaxing. It only takes minutes to cut it, so small talk is short & sweet, like my hair! Although, that's not sweet.1

i cannot stand long hair i usually get it cut every couple of months plus the ears and eyebrows i am a bit hairy for a fair haired lad however i have found wearing wellies on the farm for 50 odd years i have no hairs on my legs up to the knee1
-
Usually every 7-8 weeks, sometimes less, depending on how quick it grows. I've had short hair for many years now as I find it easier to cope with. Usually I have a cut and blow dry and go to the same salon.
My son however, I think he's barber shy because his hair is below his shoulders and longer than my daughters1 -
When I was a kid, my hair was down to the back if my knees, I hated it. Eventually, mum got fed up of it too & we got it cut off, my dad hit the roof, but, it wasn't attached to his head. Went shoulder length, then had it cut short for the last 30+ years since my accident, so it's very easy for me to manage now & as it's thinning, there's even less.1

I get my hair cut every 6-8 weeks; I also find short hair easier to cope with, &, having naturally wavy hair, it goes off in different directions if I don't do so (my son inherited my wavy hair, so tries to get his cut frequently; my daughter has long, straight hair, so the genes possibly went in the wrong direction).I consider getting my hair cut the one 'therapy' that works, as it makes me feel better. I go to a very small salon, & the owner always cuts my hair....we did have to come to an accomodation, as extending my neck backwards over a sink is contra-indicated with one of my problems. Altho I suggested I just wash my hair beforehand, the salon owner wasn't too sure. After seeing the difficulty I faced standing up & bending forwards instead to get my hair washed, she relented, so now I shower & wash my hair just beforehand, & it then takes very little time to get it cut.0

I guess I am a bit scissor phobic when it comes to getting my hair cut because they never do what I ask and pay for.
They always layer it making my fine hair looking thinner and less manageable.

I also have very thin, straight hair. I actually used to get asked if I straightened it in secondary school! I have let it go past my shoulders once but that reached the point of being too much to deal with for me.
I have had it dyed once. It wasn't all my hair, just styled strips of blue here and there. I really liked it, might try that again sometime.0 -
I used to regularly go to salons to get my hair styled and dyed, but as time went on, I learned to do it all myself. Now all I need is a good razor and shaving foam and I'm set for the day.1

How often do you get your hair cut?
Every 6 to 8 weeks ish, depending on how organised I am, and the availability of the hairdressers!Do you cut your own hair?
Definitely not. I have two hairdresser options so that I can get an appointment with one of them when I need a haircut. Are there any issues with haircuts for you?
Getting your hair cut when you're a masculine woman with short hair can be... fun. Many 'female salons' won't do more masculine cuts, and can make homophobic comments (my partner experienced this when she had short hair!). And many 'male barbershops' can be funny about cutting your hair if you're not a male, and can also make homophobic comments. So it's a risk either way.
Not all are like that of course, though! One of my hairdressers works in a primarily female salon, and I like the way she does my hair. The other is a queer male barber, who could relate to my experience of being worried about walking into any old barbershop. I did research on both before going to make sure it'd be a comfortable experience for me.How about things about it you enjoy
I agree the awkward small talk can be terrible. But I get on well with both of them, and so quite enjoy catching up. It's also nice not to have hair tickling my eyeballs.2
