Transition to universal credit

Hello I hope someone will be able to help me regarding this issue. Me and my partner have been asked to migrate to uc as currently my partner gets child tax credit and I get working tax credit. The letter says we need to make a joint claim for uc. My question is will one of us get a payment or will payments be made individually? Also will we get transitional protection? I'm really stressed out due to cost of living and don't want to be in a worse position. Thank you

Your Tax credits claim will be as a couple, not individually. When you claim UC you will each need to start a claim. One of you will then receive a linking code, which you will need to use to join both claims together. Payment will be made into one bank account.
Whether there's any entitlement to Transitional Protection will depend on the figures for both Tax credits and UC. If for UC you will be worse off then they will include TP. If you're better off on UC then they will not be any TP included.
You will need to make sure you claim before the date in the letter. Do either of you have any health conditions that limit your capability to work? Are either of you claiming a disability benefit such as PIP/ADP or DLA?0 -
Tha k you for your reply. That is a weird one because right now our claim is joint but we both receive payments. I am on pip standard rate. My wife is my carer but she doesnt claim carers allowance0

Very strange, I've never known a couple each to receive payments for Tax credits.0
