Hi,

just wondered if there are any teachers/school staff on here that have successfully claimed PIP?

PIP is not about your ability to work. People claim PIP and work. However if the work you do contradicts the reasons why you’re claiming PIP then it can go against you.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

I'm a teacher and I claimed pip last year Feb.  Surprise, I was denied.  After some reflection, I probably didn't express how difficult life had become.

In January, I had been struggling from a dislocated knee connected to osteoarthritis and evenly a knee replacement plus other things. Work have sent me to the OT 4 times (letters), consultants (diagnosis letter & MRI plus report), A&E (falls) etc.  This time I gave examples of how my life make activities and moving unsafe, slow, painful, medication, assistance with washing my hair etc. My children 24 and 27 filled in what they've seen and their concerns. My son sat with me during the assessment, he gave examples and explained in more detail if I found anything difficult.

If you are struggling, apply. Just be honest about how you feel, pain, medication and the descriptors. There are links on this site to guide you, good luck.

Excellent advice there @Pick3500 thank you for sharing.  It's always worth applying, but the DWP like things to be laid out for them in a fairly specific way. So as you said, focus on the descriptors and how they affect you, with real world examples and things should be ok. :)

    Hello,

I'm a teacher. I have a rare condition called Orthostatic Tremor and can no longer stand without shaking, which causes many problems at home and in my job. I applied for PIP in January, had an assessment last month and, surprise...awarded ZERO points across the board. The assessor's report was littered with errors (grammatical as well as factual) and omissions, so I wrote a 2,500 word MR letter and sent it last week. Now, I wait. I will fight them all the way to tribunal if that's what it takes.

As an aside, my daughter (mental health issues and autism) is STILL waiting for a tribunal from applying in January 2023, so I've been fighting that battle as well. It's exhausting.

Heya @Kirkers I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with PIP, unfortunately fighting is the only way of getting it these days. But I'm glad you are still fighting. Best of luck for yourself and your daughter.
