Inheritance and Carers allowance

Hi, I claim LCRW and I’m a carer to a family member. Recently I’ve lost a parent and I am going to be getting a fair sum inheritance. Now I know when it comes round I’ll have to declare it to UC for the LCRW and will lose it, but how does it affect my carers allowance, I’m going to be living off my inheritance.

Hi @Wackojacko23 and welcome to the community.

My condolences on the loss of your parent, I know how hard that can be without added pressures. You wont lose your UC if the money received is under 16k, though anything between 6k and 16k will mean your benefits will go down. I'm not sure how it affects carers allowance unfortunately, hopefully a community member will be able to answer that for us?0 -
Carers allowance, which is a separate benefit to UC will not be affected by any savings/capital.
It's not just the LCWRA element you will lose if you have more than £16,000. It's all of the UC and your claim will end.0
