Hello I wonder if you can help me. My partner is disabled. She is on premium esa as well as full pip, daily living and mobility. I basically have to do everything for her. We get universal credit and I am on esa back to work, ive got back pain and depression. I was wondering if its worth me applying to be a carer for her? I had to give up work last July on doctors orders with my back. I think they will try and get me back in work the next month or so, but I would be very worried how my partner will cope on her own..she cant do meals, or wash etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

There’s some confusion with your thoughts here. If you’re claiming UC as a couple then her ESA can’t include any disability premiums because it will be New style ESA she’s claiming.
I don’t understand what you mean by “you are on ESA back to work”
If you’re both claiming New style ESA as well as UC then both of those will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.
As she’s claiming daily living PIP you claim carers element for looking after her. This will increase your maximum UC entitlement by £198.31/month. To claim this you will need to report a change of circumstances on your journal and then click caring for someone. You then need to report caring for her.
You do not need to claim carers allowance to be entitled to carers element. Although if you’re claiming New style ESA you can’t be paid both benefits at the same time anyway as they are treated as overlapping benefits.0
