ESA payment

I had ESA assement about 6 weeks ago and haven’t heard anything back.
my payment went in as normal last week.
my payment went in as normal last week.
Today I received a payment from the dwp out of the blue for £40 odd quid and can’t quite figure out why.
If you’ve failed do you normally get a random payment or do they just stop it ?
Will try to give them a call, or maybe wait for the letter that I’m sure is somewhere in the postal system.
Just wondering what this might be indicative of good or bad news.

If found fit for work your ESA stops completely. If placed into the Support Group your payments increase from the 14th week of your claim to £138.20/week, which is an extra £47.70/week. Please note that those figures are the new increase rates and apply from 8th April.
Of course I can only guess what the money was for so you will need to ring them to ask.0 -
Something odd just had a letter from the local council saying my esa has been ceased and I need to claim again to let them know of income etc.
very confused as i have not even had a letter from the dwp with the response from my assement let alone a chance to do a mandatory reconsideration/appeal.Waiting on the phone to talk to them now
somethings weird, no idea why this mornings random payment and now this.0 -
The DWP letters take longer to leave the DWP offices than the council letters do from the council offices.
It does sound like your ESA has been stopped, and that will affect housing benefit and council tax reduction if you're on those.0 -
DWP often share information with a local authority so it sounds like you’re also claiming housing benefit. Is this a first time assessment for ESA or is it a review?0

All very odd dwp confirm no change after re assessment other than moving to the support group due to worsening of health conditions. But they confirm esa still active and next payment scheduled for correct date.Have emailed local council to explain.Im wondering where the council have got it from it has been ceased. Or if some clerical error has been made.Been a hugely distressing morning.0

Very fast response from the council they have advised they want to see proof of award as the DWP have advised them it has stopped. They advised they don’t contact dwp for it and the onus is on me to prove it’s an error by way of award letter. Not sure how long the award letter will take to arrive the dwp said it was sent last Tuesday.1
