Housing benefit

Hi there! A big worry & sure I'm not alone on this issue I'm a out to mention below.
I'm on Esa Support & on enhanced service pip, have quite a few health conditions & my memory isn't that great, so anyway I got the letter of rent increase from the housing association in January this year & put it to one side to send of the info to the housing benefit team as wasn't feeling to well at that time, well I wish I had sorted it there & then because I totally forgot all about it! Untill I remembered this end of March & panicked.
I didn't want to ring housing benefit incase they stopped the housing benefit that goes straight to the Landlord of the housing association so uploaded the information/evidence to where we load our information of rent & council tax ect, I had an email sent confirming that they received my documents & will only be intouch if they need any further information & so far have not seen an email since & haven't received a letter yet.
I went onto the housing association website my daughter & myself are with & the Landlord received the same amount of rent as in March, I had help through a Welfare advisor but the case is closed for now, but am fretting now that if I call the housing benefit team, depending on who answers that representative might stop our housing benefit, because they did in 2020 when I told them of a change straight away relating to a friend of ours that moved in as they had no where else to stay, they usually give 4 weeks to hand over evidence ect but didn't it took until 2022 before the rent to the landlord was paid & the housing benefit re-instated! So that's why I'm scared of the outcome, the landlord used to send the info of rent increase straight to housing benefit, so when I used to ring to let the housing benefit team know I was told they already have the information, the Landlord say they don't send the info over to housing benefit anymore, so what about those of us that have a poor memory? Anyone else with the same/similar
 issue🤢

I can't see any reason why your HB would stop if you ring them. It's not unusual for it to take quite a few weeks to get this sorted. Whether you're entitled to more housing benefit will depend on circumstances. If you're already receiving your maximum entitlement then there will be no increase.

If you're privately renting and it sounds like you are then your HB will be based on the Local Housing Allowance for the area you live.

Housing benefit is usually paid 4 weeks in arrears. So IF they award you it in say, May, you probably won't see it until June etc. Housing benefit has a backlog right now of 8 to 12 weeks because I am currently going through this. Its ridiculous. Meanwhile I am having to put ALOT towards my rent.

Housing benefit is administered by your local authority. Not all of them have backlogs. When I reported a rent increase which was from 1st April, it was all sorted within 1 week.

Not everyone receives it 4 weekly either. My rent is paid directly to my landlord (social housing) and it's paid weekly. The correct amount of rent was paid on 1st April, which was an increase from the previous payment made on 25th March.

It doesn't let you edit posts here so didn't want to spam the thread. I'm in North West England and know a few councils here have a bit of a backlog. Mines always been 4 weeks in arrears and doesn't go directly to my landlord. Each case is different, was just giving a different point of view incase the OP falls into either category
