New style ESA maybe possible if you have the correct NI contributions from working in the previous tax years. If you’re still claiming SSP from your employer the ESA can’t be paid at the same time as this. You can start a claim 3 months before the SSP ends and you’ll need a fit note and your SSP1 form from your employer to claim it. If entitled to payments they will start 7 days after the SSP ends. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-employment-and-support-allowanceYou can use a benefits calculator to check entitlement to Universal Credit. As it’s a means tested benefit then you will need to claim with your partner and your joint circumstances will be taken into consideration. If you have capital of more than £16,000 you’re excluded from claiming. If you claim both ESA and UC together the ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement. You can look at claiming PIP unless you live in Scotland and then it would be ADP. Both are not means tested and other income will not affect the amount you will be entitled to. Whether there’s any entitlement will depend how your conditions affect you. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/0

New style ESA isn’t means tested so capital and partners earnings do not affect it. Pensions of up to £85/week are also ignored.
Payments are only limited to 1 year if not placed into the Support Group. If you are then they continue for as long as you remain entitled to it.0 -
