Hi I was wondering if anyone can help my son has recently come back home, he has currently started a claim for uc and carers allowance for me he only claims uc for himself, but he has started a claim online for carers allowance, I am currently receiving uc and my partner receives state pension in which my uc is deducted, also I claim pip daily allowance, will this affect any of our benefits and if so which  , your advice is greatly appreciated

It will not affect any of your benefits. providing your partner is not already claiming Carers element of UC for looking after you.

Please also note that there's no financial gain to claiming carers allowance at the same time as UC because it's just deducted in full from any UC entitlement. As he's already claiming UC then he needs to report a change of circumstances and then tick caring for someone. The report caring for you for at least 35 hours per week.

Are you currently renting your home and do you claim for help with any rent? If you do then you need to report a change of circumstances on your journal and tell UC that your son is now living with you. You will be entitled to another bedroom, unless your housing element already covers the whole of your rent.

I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

Hi thank-you for your reply, he hasn't had a letter yet from carers as only applied last week ,I do rent my house and was receiving full amount of housing benefit before he came to live with us so will my housing benefit be reduced now, and can he claim housing benefit if this happens I'm a bit unsure of how things work thank-you

Your rent will be paid in with your UC known as housing element, not housing benefit.  Unless you're living in either supported or temporary housing and then it will be housing benefit.

He will not be able to claim for help with any rent because he's living with you.

As your PIP includes the daily living part your housing element will not be reduced because non dependent deductions will not apply.

You will need to report the changes to your local authority because of council tax reduction.

Please make sure he does as I advised here.

Once he does that his UC will include the carers element.

Can I please check whether your partner is claiming carers element of UC for looking after you?

It would have been better to ask this question on your other thread because it’s very confusing having to threads the same from the same person.

UC will continue and there’s no need to close the claim. As I advised on your other thread here https://forum.scope.org.uk/discussion/117291/carers-allowance#latest the carers allowance will be deducted in full from his UC entitlement so there’s no financial gain to claiming it.

Please read the advice on your other thread about him reporting changes to his UC.
