As with the proposed changes to ESA & the WCA, the PIP recommendations announced today are unlikely to impact current claimants - will only apply to new claims. May have to eat my words though .. we'll see soon enough.

Remember we have a General Election coming and whatever is announced will have to go through Parliament and will probably morph into something else as the months go by.

This was always on the cards, the benefits bill is going out of control and is getting too expensive
I agree with you to a certain degree. I think long term the systems in place are unsustainable and getting far too costly for any governing party to ignore.

What any change looks like is anyone’s guess and I am fairly confident this Government doesn’t even know the ins and outs, let alone costing of making changes.

But I think we all need to be aware that this issue isn’t going to go away regardless of who is in power and is likely to rear its head in the future as it has now as parties try and juggle the books.

I think both sides admit that there’s a problem and a solution needs to be found for everyone’s good (all apart from the small number faking health conditions and conning the current system - they probably like the status quo)

But the politicans actually in a position to actually change things have no real life experience of the disabled and the reality of living in a society primed to reject us

if parties were serious about change they’d be getting in more disabled candidates in for the next election and more disabled civil servants in the dwp top jobs (or general jobs for that matter

some of the smartest in uk society are disabled - time politicians stop thinking iq wise they are all that and start talking talking with and listening to us in earnest

They'll probably propose making PIP means tested for current claimants or introduce transitional protection that will erode every year like they've managed to get away with doing to disabled people migrating to UC. Goodbye to living with dignity for everyone eventually...
