Pip backpay and dwp debt

Last week I was awarded an increase in my pip I am owed roughly a year of enhanced daily living.
I had the assessment letter saying what I'll get and when.
I phoned today about the backpay and they said that it was going to be sent to debt management. I owe them roughly £500.
I'm just wondering when I can expect the payment as struggling alot recently.
When I spoke to dwp debt management they said the payment could take upto 8 weeks.
Also since when did they start taking money from backpay to settle debts seems a harsh practice for people who have been waiting a long time without the support.

it was same with me I owed a overpayment.and they sent it to debt management.i rang them and they told me.that they will sign it off .and how much I will get back.so you will get the balance back .and was informed .it goes to finance department.and gets sent to your bank account.so I would give them a call.and hopefully they will sort while your in the phone to them.

I have just experienced the same thing .I think it's discusting as pip is ment to be for disabled people and they try to take money from you to pay of a dept what's nothing to do with pip .and you already have a payment plan in place .
