Disabled badge

Has anyone had trouble getting a disabled badge? I’ve waited 4 months already, they are still a month behind, they’ve only moved a week since I called a month ago. It takes a month to process after you’ve paid so I’m looking at 8 months maybe more…this is crazy

All local Authorities have their own rules and delays so would be difficult to advise. If you automatically qualify then it shouldn’t really take that long but again, they will all have different delays for one reason or another.

yes I automatically qualify but they’ve thousands of applicants apparently so have to go through them all. I was shocked though that they’ve only moved a couple of days in a month. I’m another 4 weeks 😢

If it helps a little bit…

In certain places on private land like supermarkets the disabled bays often don't have any enforceable meaning, they are just there for guidance, so anyone can park in them

When my Granny was recovering from an operation and was, for all intents and purposes, disabled, but only for a few weeks, we wrote something on a piece of card and put it in the car window, so we could park her near the shop entrances

Again what we wrote has no legal authority either but it comes across as a bit less arrogant than just parking in a disabled bay with nothing at all, and, most decent people will be understanding

Obviously it doesn't give you the right to use disabled bays in council car parks or park on double yellow lines and stuff but it might help a little bit

My blue badge application has been with my local council since March. It should be an automatic renewal, but the PIP people have had my PIP renewal documents since November and can't tell me when I will get my new paperwork. This means I had to apply for my blue badge as if I was a new applicant, which takes 16 weeks. Everything feels like it is going to pot!

You could have rang PIP to ask them to send you a letter saying your PIP has been extended. Although they do send out letters about 35 days before your award is due to end to say it's been extended for 1 year. You could then use that letter for your BB. I'm waiting for my letter so I can renew my BB, which expires the end of next month.

it’s longer now. It started off at 12 weeks then 16 but it’s 16 now and nowhere near . It’s my first application but know they give grace for renewals
