PIP questions

Hi everyone. I'm new here so apologies if these questions have been asked before.

Firstly, I received the following text today "About your PIP review. The health professional has sent us their report.
We will make a decision on your PIP, but it may take 6 weeks before you hear from us.
You will continue to get PIP while your award is being reviewed.
You only need to contact us if your circumstances change."

Is the six weeks fairly accurate or have people experienced much longer?

Secondly, my PIP technically ran out in January this year. My renewal request was July 23 and I sent my renewal off in June 23. If my award is increased, is it backdated to last year? To my telephone assessment? To when the DWP makes a decision or not at all?! Like everyone, the process is so longwinded and torturous, it adds to daily stress.

Thank You for taking the time to read my post x

If you rang PIP to report changes and they sent you another form to fill in, if successfully awarded and it's higher than your existing award then yes it will be from the date you rang to report the changes.

If this is a review started by DWP, if successfully awarded and it's higher than your existing award then usually they do not backdate the claim to an earlier date. The decision maker will use their own discretion and sometimes (not always) they may award from an earlier date, which would mean you're owed some money.

We've had members here that have been owed money and some that haven't.

Decisions can take up to about 12 weeks, rather than the 6 you were told.

It was a review by the DWP so thank you for the info, good to know. All I know is my A.S is now much worse than when my PIP was first awarded plus my mental health is suffering.

My first PIP assessment 4 years ago was horrendous. The telephone assessor didn't give me time to answer and would cut me short. When I cried through frustration, it just made her worse. This time round, the assessor was wonderful. Kind, considerate and gave me so much time. It lasted 2.5 hours and she didn't rush me once. At the end of the call she said "I hope you get the help you need"....I'm hoping that's a good sign. She called back three times over the following few days to clarify a few points. I would like to say it looks promising but who knows.
