Is anyone else here impacted by the infected blood scandal and this week's events?

Shocked it took so long for the truth to be acknowledged and sad for all those poor families because it's far too late.

I received blood transfusions in the 70's and they saved my life. I didn't know just how lucky I was.

Very sorry to hear that Woodbine.

Where have you seen that compensation implementation might be delayed? Thanks

To clarify, my post was not politically motivated. I was simply asking if anyone else was impacted.

A very sad story indeed. It so very very sad that this has occurred. My heart goes out to everyone who has challenges with this situation. I've watched programmes on this and it's heartbreaking πŸ’” 😒 😞 πŸ˜ͺ. What kind of a world are we living in . All those professionals ignoring information πŸ™„. Treating people like guinea pigs. It's very upsetting.

Correct, there are interim payments but the main part of the compensation scheme was in the Victims and Prisoners Bill that is currently going through parliament.

I think there's talk that it may be rushed through still, but it could also just be dropped entirely and have to be restarted with a new parliamentary session.

when I was 7 (1988) I had undetected internal bleeding after tonsils op they gave me a blood transfusion and I go better. 5 days after getting home I developed a rash and jaundice, I went to dr and was diagnosed with hepatitis ( my mom thinks C was 35 years ago so a bit fuzzy on details) we knew nothing about the scandal untill a month ago now waiting on a hepatitis blood screening been waiting 2 week s for the results so far hopefully they were wrong in 88 as have given birth since and don’t want my daughter to be at risk 🀞🏻🀞🏻🀞🏻

Sending love to all affected by this my ❀️ goes out to you

I hadn't realised that the blood scandal had gone on until 1991 - that is extremely worrying because I received a fairly large amount of blood after a head injury in 1990 !!

How do I know whether I was infected or not ?

    I don't have hepatitis

BexM - I'm very sorry to hear that. I do hope you get the results soon. Hep C testing is usually very quick. If you want to chat any time, let me know.

Wibbles - you can request a simple blood test to identify if you have now or have had in the past Hepatitis C. You can do this through your GP or anonymously (Google how to get a test kit)

The only real way is to get tested, @trickyjacket gives some good ideas there. Something like 10% of people with hepatitis are carriers and never get any symptoms. It was so widespread that if you've ever received a blood product after 1980 you cannot donate blood. All to try and cut costs.
