Question about the Election

Hi everyone 😀
I have a burning question which has probably already been asked and or answered, sorry if that’s the case.
I was wondering why Sunak has chosen to “out of the blue” announce the Election at this point in time ? One day nothing, the next an election ? And in just 6 weeks.
thanks for reading folks 😀

Some are saying it's because he knows his days are numbered but who knows. I did laugh though when I heard that song "things can only get better" being blasted nearby.

Thanks Poppy and Woodbine for the replies. I was just like, why now ? not a blooming word then suddenly he wants to quit, probably a tad less humiliation for him lol.
It has certainly impacted petitions, I have signed a few and now they are not even valid, a little annoying but the explanation from the whatever the department is called in the Government makes sense I guess, I know nothing of these things 🤣 but I know I signed a few.

mrsBB, we had 6 weeks to decide an even more important vote in 2016 and we're all paying the price 🙄
I'll be glad to get this one over with as there has been speculation for some time now. He doesn't need the agro nor the money so who can blame him?

I'm afraid this is another attempt to disenfranchise voters. Many people will not have time to register to vote or will not be able to organise a postal vote in time, especially if they haven't got photo iD. Then there are the students who will be in the middle of moving away, and in Scotland it's the start of the school holidays so many will be away. He knows that one of the main jobs for the Labour party is to organise events to get poorer and more vulnerable people registered to vote, also it takes time to produce election materials in different languages, accessible formats etc. Most of these kinds of voters are traditionally not Tory voters. There has already been some gerrymandering of boundaries since the last election to favour the Tories, then the totally unnecessary photo iD requirement blatantly favouring older people with OAP passess allowed but young people's passes not. Now they rush to the polls after hinting it wouldn't be till autumn.
More dirty tricks from people who have no real interest in democracy imo.
