Prescription exemption after migrating?

Hello everybody,

I posted last week about my managed migration from income support to UC. Which has now happened after my identity check appointment , and my first UC payment will be made in early July. I had my last income suppport payment yesterday-the extra 2 week payment.

Anyway, when I go to the pharmacy to collect my own prescription, I usually tell them to tick box 'H' on the back of the prescription paper saying I get income support.

What should I do now? there's no Universal Credit box to tick on the prescription? Any ideas?

Thank you

In the absence of a UC box, the advice is to tick the Income Based JSA box, which I believe is box K.

Having looked at that site, it seems to suggest that if you are unsure you should pay, but keep the receipts and request a refund form so they can be reimbursed when you are certain. I would go through the eligibility linked above by Kimmy to check what applies to yourself @Carer90

    Thanks guys.

I think I'll ask the chemist next time I'm in, I'm sure there will be others who have had the same problem migrating over.

I had one prescription while awaiting my first UC payment, natural migration from IR ESA.

I paid & asked for the FP57 receipt.

Once I had my first statement I took that & FP57 to a chemist and they refunded me.

I am also interested in this with an upcoming migration. Someone else collects my prescriptions as I can't get out. I had forgotten about the need to tick the correct box each time.

I used to receive free prescriptions on Universal Credit. When asked whether I pay for prescriptions, I always just mentioned to the pharmacy that I was on UC and fell in the threshold for free prescriptions and they ticked the correct box for me, which I think was either box H or box K. Most of the pharmacists I've had contact with have been happy to help, so it's worth asking them if you're not sure 😊

I collect my daughters prescriptions and all the pharmacies I’ve collected from has had a box specifically for UC. If there isn’t then just tick the one for JSA.

    Hi guys,

So I just went to my local Asda pharmacy to collect my own prescription-told the lady at the counter I recently migrated over to UC. She said no problem there's a now a 'U' exemption option on the back of the prescription.

'U' - Receives Universal Credit and meets the criteria.

Yes some prescriptions do have that option now, mine does.
