Peripheral vascular disease, is any home help available?

I am 63 and have peripheral vascular disease. I have had two strokes and following the first one, I had my carotid artery unblocked and stents in my right leg. I am waiting for a bypass in my left leg. I have been told most of my arteries are block in varying degrees. People say I look well, I work full time and live alone. But...I am at breaking point. I feel I could cry all the time, but I dont. My daughter told me my porch was dirty and the house needs a clean. I really do try but everything hurts and I'm exhausted. On a good day I willclean but I can't do it like I used to and just want to lie down and sleep. Please do you know if there any help I can get . I live month to month barely managing to pay my bills on my wage so a cleaner would be out of the question for me . Thankyou for any advice. Am feeling overwhelmed at the moment so sorry to be negative xx

    Hi there.

    The NHS site says:

    Home help

This is slightly different to homecare and means day-to-day domestic tasks that you may need a helping hand with such as:

    • cleaning (including putting on clean bed sheets)
    • doing the washing up
    • doing the laundry
    • gardening

You might want some home help instead of or as well as homecare.

Most councils do not provide home help. Contact a charity such as the Royal Voluntary Service, the British Red Cross or your local Age UK to see whether they can help (it may not be free).

I think you have to pay for help from Age UK, but I'd contact them anyway as they might know what else is available in your area.

Hi @exhausted, welcome to the community. Sorry to hear you're struggling at the moment, it sounds really difficult. Please don't worry about appearing negative, it sounds like you're having a really hard time and we're all here to listen if you need to talk things through.

Have you checked to see if there are any additional benefits you might be entitled to? You could try using a benefits calculator for this to see if there's anything you might be missing out on.

If your daughter has noticed that your house isn't so clean, perhaps she could help you out. Do you think she'd be able to pop round every now and then to give you a hand with the cleaning? Or would any other friends or family be able to offer you some support?
