Carers allowance wait time.
I am waiting for my carers allowance claim to be assessed -12 weeks now. I work. After tax my income is below the threshold. I pay tax because I also receive a pension.
my tax allowance against my earnings is low as majority of my tax code is set against my pension. HMRC have apportioned my code this way. I am not on an emergency tax code. My carers allowance claim has now been referred to a decision maker because of the amount of tax I pay on my earnings. If HMRC changed my code so I payed tax on my pension and no tax on my earnings I would be very slightly above the earnings threshold and have no carers allowance entitlement.
Will my carers allowance be awarded or can DWP ‘suggest’ that HMRC change how my tax code is allocated. I am concerned I won’t get my carers allowance award despite on line information stating earnings after tax and NI. Does any one have experience of this situation and what the outcome is likely to be? Thank you.

It’s not about the tax you pay its earned income that counts. A private pension does affect carers allowance. Have you sent them proof of your pension?

the .gov site says -
- your earnings are £151 or less a week after tax, National Insurance and expenses
State pension affects carers allowance but not an occupational pension
I have claimed CA for many years whilst receiving an occupational pension; all fully declared with no impact. Having now got a job just a few hours a week I find myself, as no doubt many others have, working for little to nothing

Occupational Pension is what I was referring to when I mentioned private pension. Sorry, had a mind blank when I advised and couldn’t think of the word 🫣
