Accessing the village on a mobility scooter.
Hi everyone
I hope this is the right place for my question.
My daughter has left sided hemiplegia and tires easily. She has been gifted a small mobility scooter by her Grandma, who barely used it. We live in a rural village with very narrow, uneven paths and after going out with her today it's now apparent the only way to access the village is via two very dangerous, winding roads, which on a motability scooter with someone walking alongside, is simply not an option.
I have contacted the Parish Council to ask who could perhaps look into this for us, but I'm interested if anyone knows if my daughter has any rights here as a disabled person trying to access public transport or even just some of the activities in the village.
Thanks so much in advance

Hi @Luna51. I'm sorry no one was able to answer your question. Did you get an answer from the parish council?

Hi @Rachel_Scope
No, they didn't reply to my questions, but that's the norm apparently, happy to take your council tax but not to help if you need it!
With the wetter weather I think we'll leave it for now, but they will be seeing me at of their Parish Council Meetings in the Spring.. 😂

As an option, I can suggest contacting local businesses, perhaps they will help you. At the same time they will advertise for themselves.

I'm not sure what could be done here, I doubt they'll have the budget to widen the road and create more accessible pavements.
Are there any buses that use the route? Could she use taxis? This is the sort of thing that PIP Mobility was designed to be spent on.

Hi @OverlyAnxious
We are rural, I am talking about the village paths that give access to the local shop, park and pub, they are all only a couple of minutes drive in the car from where we are but it would be nice if my daughter could use the paths and get some fresh air (she cannot drive a car) It's more about being independent too, for her, but you're right there's never any money for widening and clearing paths which is such a shame for everyone who uses a wheelchair or smaller mobility scooter and would like to access the facilities without using a car.

Can your daughter go anywhere on the road on her own using a mobility scooter class 3?

Her scooter is small and very easy to handle, she also has epilepsy (but thankfully she doesn't lose consciousness) so no, she doesn't go anywhere on her own. I'm also not sure what a class 3 scooter is to be honest, so I'll have a look..
