Hi, my name is ClaireKamsuSullivan!Does anyone know the time scale for receiving the first/backdate?
Hi everyone,
I'm new here so excuse me if I get things wrong!
I'm seeking some PIP advice if that's ok?
I got a text on Monday to say I'd been awarded PIP and I would receive a letter detailing the award in the next two weeks. Does anyone know the time scale for receiving the first/backdate payment?
I've looked online but I've seen that it could be anything between 3-5 days and 28 weeks so I'm really confused!

Hey there @ClaireKamsuSullivan and welcome to the community.
Congratulations on your PIP award, that must be a big relief? Back pay will happen separately from the main award, but it can take some time for them to calculate the amount and transfer it to your bank. But it will happen! Usually I'd say about 8 weeks is fairly normal?0 -
Oh wow, thank you for your help!
I used to get DLA, since 2005 as I'm in a wheelchair and have bipolar disorder. Around 3 years ago, a few weeks after I'd been signed off indefinitely, they transferred me to PIP and immediately stopped my claim. When I asked the reason why, they told me that because I was able to answer all the questions during the phone assessment, that I wasn't eligible for PIP. I lost my motability car just a week after receiving my new one and my partner lost his carers allowance too. I couldn't face an appeal, my mental health went downhill and I tried to rebuild myself.
I had an appointment with my psychiatrist in April this year due to a matter with my housing and he sent a report to detail that I was disabled and he advised me to apply for PIP again.
I made my application on 19th April and had my phone assessment on 29th May so I've been really lucky that everything has happened so quickly!
I also have 2 autistic children, one of them receives the middle rate already and I applied on the same day for my older son whose needs are more complex, I've not heard anything from DLA since, just a text to say they received my application so I'm hoping that will happen soon too
The reason that I'm asking about the timescale is because our roof collapsed in our Housing Association house back in February, we've been staying in hotels and an Airbnb ever since. We lost all our possessions and the house is currently being repaired. We are due to move back in on 15th July but we have no money to buy any furniture, clothes, cooker, fridge etc.
We are taking the HA to court over it as it was a result of them not repairing the roof since we moved in there in 2013 but it isn't going to trial in the near future and we really need to raise enough money to buy beds at least. I'll be going to our local furniture exchange and charity shops to get everything we need but I just don't have any money to buy even from them and the PIP money will be very helpful!
Sorry to ramble on!!
Claire xx

On Monday morning I received the PIP award message, on Friday morning the money back was in the account. I also received the decision by post on Friday.
