CARERS ALLOWANCE

Hi first time on here so please bear with me
I am a full time carer for my wife who has had several spinal operations causing mobility problems as well as other problems for herself
Iam also disabled with arthritis of the spine and most joints in my body
I claim Carers Allowance for myself as I had to give up work to look after my wife
Please correct me if I am wrong
You must care for the person 35+ hours per week to be in receipt of the benefit so I assume a lot of people who get this benefit are unable to work due to this commitment for our loved ones
Because we are unable to work we are in receipt of other benefits (Universal Credit, Pensions etc)
Now the government whoever they are wether Labour, Reform or Conservative or whoever say that this benefit is to help with additional costs incurred by the carers and is also a TAXABLE BENEFIT
So I hope everything is right upto now
If Carers Allowance is to help out then WHY IS THIS BENEFIT ALLOWED TO REDUCE YOUR OTHER BENEFITS such as UC etc
If they want to help us then this needs to stop or pay a carer the minimum wage for this country
What is the point You are given one benefit but they take it off other benefits so why bother
If the government (whoever they are) we're to actually have to pay professional people to do the job it would probably bankrupt them
A lot of people have given up work not for money or martyrdom but because we love the person we care for
So how about being shown the appreciation we deserve
JUST SAYING
SORRY IF LONG WINDED

I absolutely agree with you re paying CA at minimum wage levels - but there also needs to be some way of checking that the carer is actually doing their job correctly
CA is too easy to claim - without any assessment or checks

Can't disagree with anything you said. I just want to check if your UC also includes the carers element? Unless of course you're receiving the LCWRA element for yourself and then the same person can't receive both elements.
Most of the time UC doesn't automatically add the carers element if claiming carers allowance.

My wife receives LWCRA element and I get carers element in our UC
I am unable to get LWCRA as my wife receives this even though I have been assessed fo it

Hi - myself and my wife both get LWCRA, both on UC obviously we only get paid one lot. Our daughter has recently been awarded higher rate DLA component so we qualify for me to be the carer element at 35+ hour per week. IF i can that- does it affect my LWCRA?

Any carers allowance you recieve will be deducted from your UC but you can also claim the carers element of UC
I don't think it effects your LWCRA

Yes you can do that. What they don’t allow is for the same person to receive both LCWRA element and carers element at the same time. Your daughter will need to have been awarded either mid/high rate care DLA.

We sorted it in the end, LWCRA and Carer Element seperatley and now backdated payment also made. Takes so long and you have to chase, chase and chase!
