Hi, my name is Amunn

I have spent 12 years not knowing what help I can receive, relying on almost no resources or support for a better life I'm hoping I can better my life from here.

What help are you looking for? You will need to give more information before anyone can try to help or advise.

I'm not sure what exact help I should mention but I will write a few current situations I'm in and if anyone can help I'd be grateful.
To increase my opportunities I'm starting education without knowing all the support I can get.
I have just requested a letter from my GP about my condition for housing so locata can improve my banding.
I am not getting the help I need by NHS for my mental health mainly but I am being forced to seek private help which is really damaging my finances. I don't know what to ask but there's a lot more if anyone can help

Hi @Amunn, a warm welcome to our community 😊 I hope we can help you get some answers.
What sort of education are you starting? Different levels of education have access to different sources of help. Also, are you currently receiving any benefits at all or no?

Hi @Jimm_Scope thanks for commenting. I'm starting a BA Hons undergraduate at a university and I'm currently receiving pip and ESA. I would like to know what help I'll get at university because I heard I can receive some. Thanks

Have you applied for student finance yet @Amunn? You can also check your universities site, many have a disability and support department who can help with adjustments and more.

Hello there, I work in education. Every university is required to provide support for you, this includes the Open University - online learning from home. When you enrolled, you should have been asked to complete a disability form that asks you about your needs. Usually, the student support team will contact you to understand your needs better. Don't hold back, tell them what help you would benefit from. The student union should also have a disability arm, they can be really helpful in fighting for and supporting learners. The student union has a lot of sway in the uni, so do speak to them. There is a range of help thay the uni can provide for you, including materials in a specific format, and a mentor (usually a year 3 student) who can help you get the support you need. There is also counselling available, and reasonable adjustments should be made to accommodate you. It all depends on your needs.
Feel free to contact me on here if I can advise in any way, but do contact the student support team, they are usually excellent.
