World Chocolate Day 2024
Did anyone know it's today???
How will you be celebrating? ๐ค
As someone whose recently been trying to lose weight but still enjoy treats and I would advocate for quality over quantity ๐
Without wanting to get all politically correct I would suggest to anyone interested to read the article below. You might have noticed cocoa / chocolate prices have gone up recently, this is because cocoa prices have gone up over 100%. According to one chocolatier this is entirely justified and in fact the price should be higher still, as cocoa beans are a luxury to the end consumers like us but lots of people depend on them for their livelihood

I didn't have this circled on my calendar, but I did coincidentally start the day with eight squares of Cadbury's Dairy Milk! So, I'm going to count that as celebratingโฆ ๐
What chocolate do you go for on a special occasion?
2 -
I don't eat it any more can't remember last time I did. They say dark ๐ซ is more better for you. It's a bit bitter tho

As a diabetic, I keep a close eye on sugar, but I allow myself a tiny square of extra dark chocolate.
1 -
Did you know that chocolate only has sugar/calories in it because of the milk and sugars and other fats that are added to it??
If you have pure dark chocolate with no sugar or milk I think you should be OK to eat more than a small square!!! But obviously don't go by me and check from a reliable source beforehand

If it isn't, it should be!!!! ๐คฉ

I tried some 99% lindt dark chocolate once and it was better than I thought it would be but still very bitter.
I must admit I have a HUUUUUUUUUUGE sweet tooth so I try and stick to dark chocolate because it's not morish like I find milk chocolate, and can only eat a little bit before feeling sick. Whereas if you put a bar of dairy milk in front of me it would be GONE ๐

I'm the same about Dairy Milk, but I didn't have any since last year. I am scared to have even a square as it would just start a chain reaction ๐

๐๐ yep, the chain reaction is so relateable!!! I find it much easier to go cold turkey and have none than I do to try and moderate

I am ashamed to say I missed this. So I guess I'll just have to eat extra chocolate today, right? Riiiight?
1 -
How old are you??
You must have missed it every year up to now ๐ง
I think maybe you need to make up for all the years you have missed?

Ooh that's a very good point. Though I may need to take out a loan to buy enough chocolate. ๐

I am definitely not currently eating some maltesers

I've said before but I'm into fine foods and stuff and have been lucky to have tried some super super nice chocolates like these which are ยฃ2.50 per bite
but my favourite chocolate is still Dairy Milk โฆ I don't know what it is about it it's just so nice
My favourite still is Dairy Milk but as an Easter Egg, it just tastes nicer in the shape of an egg, I don't care what the scientists say about it being the same chocolate ๐

I found this article about the history of chocolate from the point of view of one company
I thought it was super interesting, especially that they used to provide "service chocolate" for the forces
Also I liked looking at the brochures from like 100 years ago, I don't know why, I like looking at prices and things from history to see how they compare

Thanks for the info, @66Mustang! I'll definitely look into finding some 100% dark chocolate and check with my doctor about it. I think I tried pure dark chocolate in the past, didn't like the taste that much, but didn't experience a spike in my blood sugar afterward.
