I have been diagnosed with gout. Its not too bad. No alcohol, not even zero alcolhol drinks. Fruit juice I find too sweet. Would still like to socialise in a pub. Is there any drink recommended apart from soda water.

    @ripper

    Do you like ginger?? As I might know just the thing 😊

    One of my favourite non-alcoholic drinks, a cocktail that a relative came across in Hong Kong, it's popular with British expats, especially businesspeople, in "the colonies" because it's refreshing but not alcoholic

    It's called a "Gunner" or "Gunners"

    Equal parts ginger beer & ginger ale, lime juice and a dash of Angostura Bitters … the latter is alcoholic but it's literally a dash, like putting vinegar on chips, so it's a non-alcoholic drink

    Very tasty, not too sweet, and much more interesting to drink than a non-alcoholic drink has any right to be!!!!

    Heya @ripper and welcome to the community. 😊

    Sorry to hear about your gout diagnosis, my father was diagnosed with as as are a few friends. I'd be avoiding anything that's too high in sugars (as that'll just cause a gout flare up) but I've always enjoyed blackcurrant with soda water and plenty of ice.

    What have they prescribed for gout? I have it and have tablets and I don't have to stop anything.

    I had a bout of gout earlier this year it was very painful. They gave me some tablets to take for a few days then said it was down to diet

    I thought that once you started on the tablets it was necessary to continue with them. Did a change of diet suffice for you? If so, I am surprised.

    Thought once you had it, you had it. Good to hear you are doing well.

    I have been taking the tablets for years and haven't had it since. The pain though when you get it is incredible, even just a sheet laying on your foot is painful.

    Never heard it being down to diet before so guess you learn something new each day
