Hello, my name is Malek! I wish to come to the UK to study the language, any advice?
Hello everyone,
I am planning to come to united kingdom to study the language, and I have a mobility impairment. I can walk inside the house and I am looking for accommodation with a host family.
Could anyone please advise me on the best ways to find such accommodation? Additionally, are there any support services available for international students with disabilities who are coming to study the language?
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards,

Hey there @malek and welcome to the community. I hope you're keeping well?
I'm afraid I'm not entirely sure of the best places to look for accessible accommodation with a host family. Are you currently in education? A local college may have more information on studying overseas perhaps? Or maybe one of our community will have some ideas?0 -
@malek Welcome to Scope.
You do not mention if your program will be short-term at a UK language school or at a university. Google international language courses in the UK and make enquiries directly with the schools or universities that offer courses. Both English universities and language schools in the UK offer disability support services and homestay families with facilities for hosting disabled students.
When booking, ensure that the language school or university offering courses is accredited by English UK or the British Council. Most UK language schools provide homestay accommodation, so it’s important to inform them about your needs well in advance of your stay to ensure you are matched with a suitable family that can cater to your disabled needs and make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Once you have chosen a university or school, they will assist you with finding a host family and advise on travel documents, insurance, and additional services like transport to and from the airport to your host family. By informing them of your needs in advance, you will be matched with a suitable family.
Please note many English families have pets. If you have allergies to pets or dislike dogs or cats, let them know in advance so they can place you in a pet free home. Also, inform them if you have any special dietary needs so the family can prepare suitable meals for you. Wherever you study in the UK, be sure to research the university or school thoroughly. Malek, I wish you all the best with your studies, and I'm sure once you find a suitable course and accommodation, you will have a very enjoyable time in the UK.

Thank you very much for your detailed response and the valuable information you provided. I appreciate your advice regarding the options for language courses and the arrangements for accommodation.
As my English language skills are still developing, I sometimes find it challenging to communicate with foreign institutions. Therefore, I would be extremely grateful if you could assist me in this process or guide me to the appropriate resources. Your help would be invaluable to me.
Thank you again for your time and support.

Hi @malek
Have you already found an English language course to study?
If you haven't, you could try looking for courses online first. This website has an option to translate into Arabic and a search box to show accredited courses suitable for people with disabilities: Course finder (englishuk.com)
As MW123 said, once you have found a course, the best thing will be to contact the school to see whether they have any support or accommodation available. Unfortunately, we can't do this part for you, but I'm sure the schools are used to speaking with people who aren't comfortable talking in English yet.
Hope you can find something soon 😊
