AET Universal Credit- Carer- Couple

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to get some advice on the following.

My husband and I are receiving Universal Credit. I am a carer to a disabled child (8 years old) i do over 35 hours of care and my husband works and helps with the care too we also have a ten year old child.

Up until recently my husband has had to earn over the single threshold (not the couples threshold) but recently he has a new Work Coach who is insisting that he earns the couple threshold himself, she is disregarding that I am doing over 35 hours of care and I receive carers allowance.

My husband has mentioned to her that it has always been a single threshold in the past as I am a carer but she refuses to listen to him.

I checked online and the Turn2us website does mention that the single threshold is used if a partner is a carer or has Limited Capability for Work (instead of the couples threshold).

I'm not sure how to resolve this situation as I have tried speaking with the manager (who seems clueless) at the Job Centre and the Work Coach got involved and said I am wrong and that it is the couples AET (which the manager is now going along with).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi there @Lili_R and welcome to the community. 😁

I'm afraid I'm not 100% on the UC rules still, but I'm hoping someone will be able to answer your questions soon.

They are incorrect to apply couples AET here because you are a carer and have no commiments.

Put in a complaint or contact your local MP.

That is referring to the work allowance as has no relevance on the AET, which is what the question was referring to.

@poppy123456 I will stand corrected. I am not fully aware of their personal circumstances and was just trying to be helpful.

Hi, just a quick update firstly thank you for all the responses.

Poppy123456 i made the complaint on my journal ( as my husband was getting no response on his) I copy and pasted replies I recieved from Carers UK and Contact to It and also the information from the Turn2us website regarding the single AET for couples (one carer).

It has now finally been sorted out and it is the single AET for our situation

Thanks again for your advice it was very helpful and confirmed to me that they were incorrect .
