Bi-Polar Disorder (Type Two)

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone here lives with BPT2 at all?

If you do, how are you finding it? How does it impact you? How do you manage the cycles?

I got diagnosed in Oct 2022 following a suicide attempt and period of hospitalisation (informal).

I find that I have very severe and long lasting depressive episodes with the occasional hypo-manic episode.

When I am low, I push people away, my work performance suffers, I don't take care of myself very well, I essentially feel very hopeless and I also find that I have an increase in paranoia and 'dis-trust' in those close to me. I self-sabotage a lot, break down friendships almost go out of my way to punish myself. I also have suicidal ideation, all day, every day.

When I am hypo-manic I over spend, I engage in a LOT of exercise, I feel on top of the world, I do impulsive things like start small businesses, gamble and I have even in the past started to write a book about my life (because, you know, everyone needs to know about me).

I am on Olanzapine, Diazepam and Promethazine for my medication and due to a recent 'relapse' I have got to complete 6 weeks of intensive psychology. I have a feeling my Psychiatrist wants to re-diagnose me with Borderline Personality Disorder. I would fully understand why if I am honest but at the moment, we are working with Bi-Polar Disorder Type Two.

In my case it would make sense. The only issue is I’ve never really self harmed and I always thought that was a big BPD trait?

Yes…self harm is a BPD trait. It was what my pyschiatrist used along with intense abandoment issues to add BPD to the mix i believe.I also have PTSD plus more.A lot of conditions have cross over symptoms of course. But they also have some uniqueness also.Think venn diagrams.

PS 24 hour gyms were a blessing and curse.I once trained 5 times a day for 5 days straight!!!

Haha I hear that! When I’m ‘high’ I train like a professional athlete! Then I get ‘low’ and I’m the extreme opposite….
