No, you do not claim it from an estate agent.
I see from a previous thread that you’re claiming Universal Credit so help with the rent will be included with that, known as housing element.
If you successfully find some where ti live once you move in you will need to report a change of circumstances by logging into your journal. You will need to provide proof of liability to pay rent such as a tenancy agreement or lodgers agreement.
The only problem you may have is finding a landlord that will accept you as a tenant because you’re claiming benefits.

Thanks for this
So do I tell an estate agent to find a landlord who is willing to take me as I'm claiming benefits
Or how else does do I do it

You just need to find a landlord that will accept you as a benefit claimant. You can ask letting agents if they have any properties suitable.

Let us know how you get on with the house search @tahirahmed
Finding good housing is not easy these days, and estate agents and landlords certainly don't make it easy. You can report any estate agent or landlord who is discriminating against those on benefits.

I have a problem. I am disabled and to reduce my rent to an affordable level I claim some housing benefit. I have a distant cousin in America who wants to visit me and stay perhaps for three months. Will this affect my housing benefit as she will not be paying me?
Can anybody give me an answer please?

Hello @Maurice123, can I ask if you claim any other benefits such as PIP or AA or Council Tax Reduction alongside housing benefit? I want to ensure the answer we give is accurate but need to know the full picture of your situation.

Yes. I claim council tax and receive a very small pension saving credit. get a further reduction in my council tax but still pay about £600 a year. I would be grateful for your advice. Thanks
