Hi, my name is jmelbar! Could I claim for LCWRA? Can I get 30 hours free childcare if on PIP?

Hi, I wonder if anyone is able to help with this query? I’m married and have been on SSP for due to having MS for the last 6 months but this is due to end . I am married and my partner works full time. Am I able to claim LCWA? I am also in receipt of PIP which I know isn’t means tested. I also want to know if I can claim the 30hrs free childcare if on PIP?

Hi @jmelbar, welcome to the community. If you're married you'd likely have to claim for Universal Credit as a couple. Your partner's income would be taken into account as well as any savings you or your partner have, so it's worth checking whether you'd still be eligible. You could try using a benefits calculator to work out what you might be entitled to:
If you've made enough National Insurance contributions, new style ESA might be an option for you. I'll pop a link with some information below:
New Style Employment and Support Allowance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
I'm afraid I'm not too sure about the childcare question, but I hope some of our members might have been through similar and can offer their experiences soon 😊

As your SSP is due to end then you can look at claiming New style ESA. For this you will need the correct amount of NI contributions in tax years 2021/22 and 2022/23. It’s not means tested so capital and partners earnings will not affect it. You will need your SSP1 form and a fit note to claim it.
For 30 hours free child care because you live with a partner then both of you need to expect to earn at least £2,380 each. You may also be entitled if you’re claiming New style ESA.
For Universal Credit then use a benefits calculator as advised above. If you claim ESA and UC at the same time the ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.
