New Vacuum Cleaner

Hello.
There is a bagged cordless lightweight vacuum cleaner which might useful for myself and elderly parents. However it costs £200 although there might be a 10% first time discount making it £180.

I can’t imagine spending this amount on a vacuum cleaner, especially as I don’t know how good it is even after reading reviews.

It’s called a Pro 2 Cordless Bagged Stick Vacuum.

It won’t be the main vacuum, as I need to buy a main replacement to vacuum the house which will cost around £60.

This lightweight one will be for the car and quick convenience for my parents and I, especially for lighter cleaning upstairs.

Does anyone own this vacuum and recommend it? Any other general advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Right, are you sitting comfortably? Bit of a saga and only a general comment.

No, I don't own that model. But I do need to maintain a modicum of hygiene. I have spinal curvature and can't walk without holding on to something. I have a super-duper but heavy as lead old upright. Can't remember the detail, but I think there was a fuss when the EU outlawed anything that powerful! I can't stand and push. I can sit and push. The hose and flex are in the way and the whole thing is a mighty pain but I do it occasionally, as in really occasionally, like every three months.

So I use a cordless handheld for everything, and I have found them excellent, much more powerful than you might think they are, useful attachments, including one that penetrates under the fridge, invaluable at all heights (coffee granules on the worktop, crumbs on the settee), easy to empty, clean by dumping the container part in the washing-up bowl, could not live without it, with the bonus that the suction makes it an excellent tool for picking up anything light - oh has a sudden gust of wind blown a piece of paper off the table onto the floor behind? Never fear, vac is here!

Many thanks, the power was something I was worried about with these handhelds so that is very useful to know.

There is a £130 version so £117 after discount but it doesn’t convert into a long stick vacuum for floor cleaning. It just has “crevice tool” attachment and a shorter brush attachment.

It sounds like your handheld has much better attachments.

I’m just deliberating now whether to get the handheld which converts into the long stick or just he handheld.

    Thanks again for your help.

I have a Shark stick vac, which they do make cordless, although I chose the corded version as it's only a small property and I didn't want the charging hassle.

The thing with the Sharks is that they do quickly detach from a floor cleaning head (which does both carpet and hard floor) to a long reach stick, or a short handheld. They also come with both a crevice tool and a brush tool.

The Shark handle is heavier than the GTech Pro 2 because the motor is at the top but I find it infinitely more versatile myself. It is the only vacuum I have after my old Henry became too heavy for me to use.

If you can get out, it might be worth test-driving a few cordless vacuums for their weight in a shop.

I don't think I've ever paid more than £50 for a handheld. Mine is made by some guys called Vaclife, who seem to have vanished off Amazon. They're all much of a muchness, here's a similar one.

Thanks for the replies. The 2 I am looking at are bagged vacuums which is a must requirement unfortunately.

I am considering the cheaper one without the stick the price is too much though.
