Marrying someone from abroad

I am in receipt of universal credit and PIP and plan to marry a woman who lives in a non-ec country.

My plan is to try to bring her over to the UK after marriage and am confused by the current rules. I understand that I do not need to meet the minimum income rule as I am getting PIP.

However, it indicates that you need to show you and your family have enough money to house and support yourselves without relying on additional public funds. The caseworker considers your income and housing costs.

My housing costs are nil as I have a fully paid for property. I don't pay for any rent but I'm totally reliant on the income from my benefits to manage and am hoping to use this to cater for my family as well.

In the circumstances I gave described, can I bring over my spouse to the UK?

Hi @pbarot. This isn't something that I am familiar with unfortunately, hopefully someone else will be able to help.

Have you looked into how your UC may be affected when you partner moves in? Here's some information https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/what-youll-need-to-do-on-universal-credit/check-if-a-change-affects-your-universal-credit/#:~:text=You%20move%20in%20with%20your%20partner&text=You%20won't%20need%20to,account%2C%20contact%20your%20work%20coach.

Milton Keynes Man here once again. Wife died 4 years ago and I prayed along the lines: "Oh dear Lord please give me another wife that chases me around the bedroom and can't keep her clothes on" I met a Nigerian lady who I thought lived in England but she was only visiting. Long distance relationships are difficult and now my health is failing things are already not easy but hey, we are getting married. Getting permission from the Home Office was easy us marrying shortly and she retires in December so we will then have to get her permission to change her multiple entry visa to a spouse visa otherwise we could be trapped thousands of miles apart. Question I am receiving PIP, LCWRA, private pensions & housing benefit and I will receive state pension mid November 2025. Do I have to inform Universal Credit or HMRC or the Man on The Moon when we get married even though she will be flying out again? Dealing with benefits is impossible for me to do and I just don't understand things.
