OK community, let's try and answer one of life's most important questions; What goes best in a sandwich?

Are you a fan of the humble cheese sandwich? If so, how do you have the cheese? Grated or thick sliced?
Butter, or no spread?
What type of bread? Thick cut white, or a lovely warm ciabatta?
How about a triple decker pastrami sarnie with lashings of mustard and pickles?

What are your go-to favorites?
Let's see if we can design the community's perfect sandwich!

    Does no one like sandwiches?!

OK, let's start with the bread then, what's everyone's favorite?

My sandwich routine has been perfected to use the least amount of hassle & cutlery. Pre-sliced bread, pre-sliced cheese, no butter.

Is it nice? Not really. But it is functional. πŸ˜„

Always wholemeal bread. And I have to toast it every time now as can no longer process 'normal' bread.

A fine question. I'm glad I've had my porridge and honey today. I don't like sandwiches. If I was to make one for you, it would be A French baguette with masses of sliced beef with horseradish and a small side salad.

Hmmm, maybe I do like a sandwich as I fancy that.

    Nikki.

My all time favourite sandwich is sourdough white sliced bread lightly toasted then spread on real butter. Filling is proper ham, not that thin watery stuff with fine shred coleslaw with mature cheddar cheese. I'm hungry now 😫

@Jimm_Scope would they be southern Tayto cheese and onion crisps? They are the best. My dream job as a child was being a taste tester in the Tayto castle πŸ˜„

I'm with @Jimm_Scope a crisp butty is the best πŸ‘Œ but it has to have real butter on the bread πŸ™ƒ

Oh i do so love a crisp sarnie. Though oddly I really like prawn cocktail crisps, lots of butter and a bit of black pepper.

For other sarnies, I much prefer very lightly toasted bread. Aaaaand now I'm craving sourdough. πŸ˜‹

@Marydoll5 I don't get tayto much where I live πŸ˜₯ I have to settle for walkers or an own brand

@vikingqueen I am very odd, and I know this is odd, but I've never liked butter in a sandwich since I was a kid. I don't know why, I just don't like it for some reason!

If I can't have a crisp sandwich then a good toasted sausage sandwich does the spot I think

Salmon is a very good choice there @Strawberry1 !

So I'm seeing a trend toward lightly toasted white bread so far…

I honestly don't mind the bread when it comes to taste. The issue for me is the fibre content and my crohn's disease πŸ˜‹

In fact, I can't remember the last time I actually ate a sandwich, as even too much white bread can cause me issues. These were just sandwiches I would love to eat before my crohn's developed

Grilled Turkey, Brie and Cranberry mustard.

(Cranberry Mustard is made by mixing cranberry sauce and wholegrain mustard)

    Really yummy

    Wibbles,

that does sound delicious. I'd have to add a little avocado to it to be perfect for me.

At the Royal Norfolk show, my stand was near the hog roast seller. I could smell the pork as it was cooked, I would order well in advance. Succulent pork, crispy yet melt in your mouth crackling, with an apple stuffing.

I just had my porridge with honey. I guess I'll have to stick with that for now.

That does sound tasty @Wibbles. I'm unfortunately stuck with vegan brie due to my crohn's, I've actually had a surprisingly good vegan alternative to brie but it still isn't quite as good.

Sadly I'm another not able to eat sandwiches much in their pure form, but if we discount all the dietary stuff I'm definitely in the cheese and pickle crew. Crusty soft white bread, thick butter, mature cheese (sliced not grated), Branston pickle. Or cheese and mango chutney to mix it up. Even cheese and strawberry jam if we're feeling extra fruity 😁

Maybe I'm over-complicating things with this question, but how are we feeling about a sweet dessert sandwich?

Nutella? Peanut Butter with or without banana? Jam? For me, white bread is the only option for a desert sandwich.
