UC Phone appointment
Hi all
My husband and I have both got a take part in your commitments call with UC coming up.It’s been nearly 12 weeks since we had to go on it. I’m his carer and was quite surprised we are having these as he’s signed off work until October with that ongoing after for however long it takes on his road to rehabilitation following a near fatal accident. Would this be to do with LCWRA or would it be about making us start the route to go back to work which would be horrendous because there is no way he could and no way I can leave him on his own for 11 hours a day.
sorry , still new to all of this so help as always is gratefully received .
Many thanks as always

Has a decision been made on your partners PIP claim and you're now claiming carers element? If so then you shouldn't have any commitments, other than to agree to report any changes. If this is a recent claim for carers element this maybe what the phone call is about.
Are you his appointee for UC as well as PIP? If so then he shouldn't have any commitments, even before a decision is made on his work capability assessment.
Has he been referred for a work capability assessment? If so then the assessment for this will not be done through UC itself, it's done through the Health Assessment Advisory Service.

Hi Poppy,
nothing on PIP - still waiting on the case manager decision.
I haven’t applied for carers element yet. I’ve also not asked to be his UC appointee.
I also received a journal message last week with regards to the UC50. I got one at the start of the claim back in June, and had confirmation from UC last week that it was accepted that it couldn’t have been filled out back then as he was in a coma, however they would be sending me it again. I filled it out and sent back a few days ago.
My son wants to be his dads full time career enabling me to go back to work as I can earn more than him. Can you change names on a UC joint claim and although I appreciate that UC is means tested, would it affect his LCWRA. Just looking at options. Thanks so much0 -
You will not be able to stop claiming UC with your partner and add your son to the claim instead because UC is a means tested benefit, including the LCWRA element and you have no choice but to claim with your partner.
UC is a means tested benefit made up of many different elements and all of it is means tested.
If your partner is found to have either LCW or LCWRA then you will have the work allowance. This means that a certain amount of earnings received each month will be disregarded before deductions apply. If you claim for help with the rent it will be £404/month, if you don't it will be £673/month.
You can also still claim carers element and work because it has no earnings limit like carers allowance does.

Thank you.
I suspected LCWRA was means tested but wasn’t sure.
