Threat from EDL Racists/Terrorists.
Our shop manager is telling folk to stay at home because of a threatening message from the EDL to our town and others. I had already signed a petition against these Racists:
I stand totally the other side, always have done as a liberal raised in Inner London. My former carer has brought me into her Nigerian family. I am talking in a very personal way to her sister and two daughters in Nigeria. We are planning to visit them at Christmas. Then other plans are hoped to develope. I have been at my guardian lady's market stall. I stand with all peoples and have a We Stand Together leaflet on one of my tables.Comments

I agree @m_burrell82, it's actually awful what's been happening. I saw videos of these 'protestors' setting up road blocks to stop cars and check the ethnicity of the person driving, like WHAT!!!
Your former carer sounds lovely! What other plans are you hoping to develop when you visit them at Christmas?

The EDL disbanded over a decade ago.

Likely they will come to the UK and/or join us on future holidays. (We are going to Germany Sunday week). It has been a debate whether I'd be able to live with them there or they could come here, or we come together in a third country. (Like maybe marry).

People have still been filmed chanting "EDL" at the riots as well as the name of their previous leader. But they've also been chanting some much more unsavory things too I guess.

It's mob rule now, nothing to do with Southport. Just gangs of people causing mayhem for the fun of it.

From what I've seen EDL is less of an official organised group and more of an "idea" now.
The closest comparison I can think of is in the United States of America and the use of "antifa", there is no organised group called "antifa" but there are people who ascribe to the idea. I think that is what we are seeing with the use of 'EDL' here.

Have you seen the footage of the Muslim defence league?
Its extremely violent and some of them openly carrying machetes but that has been played down by the media, the police and the government.
They are openly calling for violence on social media and shouting "Allah akbar' in a threatening intimidating manner.
Both sides are as bad as one another but it seems that this label "Two tier Kier" and "Two tier policing" is correct and it needs to stop because if it doesn't then things will only escalate.
Labour have only been in government for a month and thier handling of this situation has been absolutely appalling.
The hatred and division will continue as long as people write things like "Threats from EDL/terrorists".

Well we know who liked the argument "good people on both sides" don't we? The reverse is just as bad. And wrong. Stop defending the thugs, it doesn't matter what they call themselves, the white people are from the oppressive privileged class. When you're the oppressor, equality feels like you're being done wrong, but only because you had more than your fair share of the power in the first place.

Both sides have thugs in their ranks and they all should be dealt with equally for their parts in these appalling riots.
Currently that does not appear to be happening.
No one on this thread has defended the thugs as far as I can see.

I found this title alarming yes! Unnecessary. Then it's Nigeria, Germany and Christmas.
Click baiter perhaps?

Where I live, every community has had something directed at em, my mate has recieved antisemitism on social media when trying to find if his friends were safe and he's feeling like here's not his home anymore and he's staying in doors for his safety. My carer who's of middle eastern background was scared to come in to work yesterday. She's been getting dirty looks when out shopping too!
I mean our little town is like whitesville anyway, so you have to be on your guard if your different anyway, but this is different, and scaryWhere I live, anyone who's not white is feeling it at the moment I think, and I highly suspect thats UK wide.

It's been terrifying for so many and it's been heartbreaking to watch. I really hope your friend and your carer are ok. The rioters do not speak for the UK, we are all better than that.

Mate's had more antisemitism tonight, police have been useless regarding night before when a blatantly anti Jewish image with exaggerated facial features was shared in relation to the protests in our part of the country. "Didn't quite meet the criteria of a hate crime" they said, only for him to go and have to report more tonight.
