What Invention Has Improved Your Life?
Whether it be related to your disability or just in general, what invention has made all the difference to your life?
For me it has to be antidepressants. They have changed my life for the better and I'm very grateful for them as I can now lead a life without constant panic.
I also can't forget the humble v-pillow. It makes sitting up in bed, watching tv, or doing some puzzles so much more comfortable.

The air fryer!

What are your favourite things to air fry @noman? I don't have one but I've heard lots of good things about them!

I do literally everything in it,having 2 drawers I can do a full meal for myself and being able to sync the drawers so they are done at the same time!
Can’t remember the last time I used the oven!

Oh wow that's pretty good! I may have to have another look at one. I'm quite a fussy eater so don't know it'd be worth it for me, unless it can do pizza 😂

Pizza does well in it!

You may have sold it to me then 😂

In terms of aiding my mobility.
Stairlift, mobility scooter and Riser/recliner chair. In addition various aids to help me cook. Mostly ready meals as I do have limited use of my right hand.

Handheld cordless vac (detail in another thread about vacs). Without it I'd either be knee-deep or have to pay someone.

Varifocal lenses - allow me to see the world like most people do (and they said I wouldn't be suitable for them!)

Well, I feel like saying "computer technology/internet" is cheating. I also feel odd saying "biologic medication", but it has saved my life.
Oh, this is going to sound silly but… the printing press. I love books, I should really read more books. But I think books have improved my life, which is why I should read more of them 🤣

I'd say for me it's the heamodialysis machine. As its basically keeps me alive. Invented by a Dutchman (I'm half dutch so some national pride) Not that long ago in the timeline of medicine. While he didn't come up with the idea, he refined it to be useable, if crude back then.

My stairlift!! It's made my life so much easier and I don't even know how I managed in my previous house.
Completely agree. I have the dual ninja and it's absolutely amazing. I cook most things in it. Meat is the best! so tender, tasty and delicious. So much quicker than the oven for everything.

The grabstick, I have one in every room.
Also, another for the air fryer. I have the oven style as opposed to the drawer version. I don't possess a regular oven & don't need one as the air fryer cooks everything.

POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING AS MY POST IS ABOUT DEATH, DYING AND CANCER
For me it has to be the high dose of antidepressants I'm on as I was diagnosed with postnatal depression when my daughter was about 2 months old l, but none of the lower doses of antidepressants I was prescribed worked for me. I was put on them in October 2018. I was a week a way from finishing the 6 months trial period of the dose below the one I'm currently on when I found out that my late dad had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer due to smoking cigarettes and I went downhill. When I spoke to the doctor who had prescribed me the lower dose antidepressants and told him about my dad, the doctor instantly increased it to the dose I'm on now.
Although I'd taken my antidepressants on the morning of my dad's funeral (my mum had rang and told me n my fiancé that my nanna, who is my late dad's late mum had come for my daddy. I was heartbroken 😭. I'm a nanna's and daddy's girl and I don't care who knows as I'm 41.
I've been on the antidepressants that I'm on for almost 6 years and they're still doing their job.
I'm also glad that someone invented the fan as I'd be lost without mine as I get hot really easy but thanks to my fan I can keep cool. I have a desktop fan on my bedside table in mine and my fiancé's bedroom and my mum has large free standing fan in the front room and the best thing about my mum's fan is that it has a remote control for it, so you can switch on or off either manually or by the remote.

Just catching up on the these.
@poppy123456 I bet the stairlift has made a huge difference. Definitely a life-changing invention.
Now a grabstick is something I hadn't thought of @JessieJ. I could probably do with one, or one in each room like you! Such a good idea.
I completely agree with the invention of antidepressant being life-changing @BrianMcFaddenfan24. I don't know what I'd do without mine. My life was chaotic before I finally admitted that I needed them. I'm glad they've worked so well for you and helped you through such difficult times. My husband would definitely agree with the fan! Before we met he couldn't sleep without a very loud and powerful fan being on. I soon changed that 😂 We have a fan on when it's hot but I draw the line in winter!

I will add fans too! I have 2 remote control, collapsible fans that are rechargable via USB. You can have them at standard height or desk top & anything inbetween. I have one on me now in the lounge & another by my bed that is on every night & in winter. I even took one to cricket with me when we had that rather short hot spell. A couple of people asked where I had got them & when I saw them at the next match, they had both bought one. Shame I wasn't on commission! 😂 Oh and I had a small collapsible stool/table & they both bought one of those too! 🤣

My humble wheelchair, without which i'd be buggered ♿

Elastic waistbands 👍 for both comfort and the ease of dressing. And the fabulous 'grippy sticky'. I have multiple ones around the place. And the tv remote control! Gone are the days of getting up to push the buttons on the massive breeze block of a tele with all 3 channels 😂

I think that my riser/recliner chair is something that I wouldn’t be without along with my mobility vehicle. I would probably be stranded without them. I am a big Apple fan for gadgets. I find their technology simple to use, and I know that I can call Apple support with any technical problems.
