Hi, my name is yasin! What are the rules for going abroad on UC?
Hi, can I ask for some information.
If you go abroad, you can continue to get Universal Credit for one month (30 days), or is it 28 days
Is the day of departure and day of return counted towards the 30 days, as you are technically still in the UK.
Are you permitted more than one trip abroad per year as long as each trip does not exceed 30 days.
You can continue to get Universal Credit for up to 6 months if you go abroad for medical treatment or ‘approved convalescence’

For UC it’s 1 month, 30 days. The day you leave and come home are not counted.
You can go as many times as you want. However, if you have work commitments for UC then you will need to continue with those while you are away.
Yes up to 6 months for medical treatment but you will need proof of this. It will be down to a decision maker to make the final decision.

Hello @yasin, welcome to the scope community 😊 Please do ask if you have anymore questions or follow-ups that hasn't been covered by Poppy's answer!
Are there any other disability, or benefits topics you are curious or unsure about at all?

Thanks for the response. I have complex cardiac conditions. After numerous procedures, the consultants have said that there is nothing else they can do for me and have discharged me. I want to explore some medical options available abroad, hence the need to go more than once.
I am on LCWRA, so there are no work commitments.

It would be down to a decision maker to make that final decision, if you go for longer than 1 month. The only issue you will have is that they can't make a decision before you leave the country. A decision can only be made once a change happens, it can't be made before that change happens.

Do I need approval from UC to go abroad for upto 1 month, or is it a matter of informing them

No, because you have LCWRA then you can go for up to 1 month and your UC continues.

Thank you so much

You're welcome. If it helps, I'm going abroad with my daughter next month, she claims UC with LCWRA element and will not report the changes because we are only going for 11 nights.
