LCWRA

Hi,

I was self employed for many years and topped up with UC and I unfortunately became sick with Fibro and other things, was unable to work for month. It isn’t safe for me to drive let alone teach people, I was falling asleep at the wheel and my legs and arms were giving way. It was the most frightening experience. I couldn’t continue keeping myself or anybody else safe behind a wheel. I then contacted my work coach who told me to apply for LCWRA.

I was in a contract with AA driving school paying weekly payments to lease a car which I struggled to pay for all the months I wasn’t working. Family members had to step in.

I had my medical Assesment and was deemed to have LCWRA.

My contract then ended and I didn’t renew it as I am unable to work and couldn’t afford to pay for a car and have a contract I can’t using. So, I informed UC that my contract had ended and due to my illness cannot renew it.

They have asked me to come in for an interview - gateway intervention, I suppose to see if I’m gainfully out of employment. I have informed them that I am unable to even move around my house due to my loss of feeling in limbs, chronic fatigue and pain, let alone attend the job centre. Are they aware I’ve been awarded LCWRA.

My question is, do I need to attend and is my reason for not renewing my contract a valid one in their eyes.

sorry it’s so long winded.

Hi @Jacqui_D. I'm sorry you didn't receive an answer to your question. Did you attend the meeting and has it all been sorted? I hope so 😊

You have no work commitments now because you've been found to have LCWRA. If you were gainfully self employed before being found to have LCWRA then this will not apply now and the minimum income floor will also not apply.

If you're no longer working then there shouldn't be any need for you to attend the gateway appointment.

Thank you. They did finally respond to one of my messages and it’s all sorted now thankfully.

Good to hear @Jacqui_D. Did their response mention you wouldn't need to come in for those appointments or was it just a "we're looking into this" sort of response?
