National Relaxation Day

Today is National Relaxation Day across the pond in the USA! Apparently it was all thought up by a nine-year-old boy called Sean Moeller back in 1985. He once stated in an interview that on National Relaxation Day people shouldn't work or do any cleaning and should take the day to relax and enjoy themselves. I think Sean's got the right idea 😁

So in honor of Sean and his day of relaxation, I thought it would be a nice opportunity to share what gets us feeling all loosey-goosey and relaxed.

Sean said no to cleaning, but I actually quite like a bit of cleaning if I'm feeling stressed out. And a nice bath always hits the spot too. Lots of bubbles, and I'll often set up my laptop on a chair to watch a TV show or film while I'm in there. Feels very decadent!

Creativity, nature and breathing exercises are also pretty helpful to me if I'm stressed out. Has anyone ever tried box breathing?

To box breathe, you breathe in for four, hold for four, out for four, hold for four and repeat. It's supposed to reset your breathing to get you out of any kind of fight, flight or freeze response. It's well worth a try if you're feeling any big feelings, but remember to take a break or reduce your count to a lower number if you start to feel dizzy.

What's your go-to thing to do when you need to relax and unwind?

Ooh I like the sound of this day! Maybe it should become a month?? 😂

I like to put my headphones on, listen to music, and turn on my galaxy light and watch the colours move around my room. Sooooooo relaxing. I do try to do breathing exercises and they're quite useful but haven't tried the box breathing, I'll give it go!

I tend to have long, hot baths and just soak with some chilled music on. As a neurodivergent person, I think self care is so important to us, as we have to find new ways of decompressing and letting info from the day to sink in. So I'll usually be in the bath straight after work. 😆
