Carers element
Hi I am wondering if anyone knows the answer to this? I was awarded full pip since 5th January 2023 and we had a universal credit assessment two weeks ago which the advisor told us about the carers element on universal credit. We knew nothing about this and we have applied for the carers element and stating the start date of 5th January 2023 that my fiance started caring for me. Anyone know if this if we are awarded it gets back dated to that date or not? Reason we never claimed the carers allowance is because my partner works part time and earned over the threshold. But care more than 35 hours a week.

It will be down to a decision maker to make the final decision. If they agree then it will be from the assessment period in which your PIP was awarded from. It may take a couple of weeks, sometimes longer for a decision.
If money is owed it will be paid separately to your usual monthly money.
