Backdating Income related Topup for CB ESA
Hi guys, first time poster here. Apologies in advance for the long and complicated post I am about to make but I couldn't quite find a similar situation to mine in the whole of Google land!
I'm having a bit of trouble figuring if and how I can possibly make a backdated claim/reassessment of my income in order to get an income related top up of my Contribution based ESA (in the Support Group) claim as my situation seems complicated.
Originally I was on Severe Disablement allowance, similar to the old Imcapacity Benefit? But I got transferred like many others to ESA.
I recently found out my ESA is Contribution based and not Income Related.
I also found out that I may be entitled to an Income Related top up of my CB ESA because I received Enhanced disability premium?
Until a couple of years ago I only received CB ESA. Then I moved home and made a new claim for UC.
My Enhanced disability premium that I get with my CB ESA was taken away I think due to claiming UC a couple of years ago and im now getting the LWRCA from UC instead of the Enhanced disability premium?
However, the rest of my old style CB ESA has stayed separate from UC, although my CB ESA is deducted from my monthly UC payment.
In a nutshell can I make a backdated claim from the date I was transferred from SDA to CB ESA?
I assume that because I'm still on the old style CB ESA I can make a back dated claim for a reassessment of my income between my CB ESA migration date and the date I received UC?
If I can is it just a case of asking for an ESA3 form and taking it from there? Or would being on UC now as well completely scupper my backdated claim? I assume being on UC means I would not be entitled to the ongoing IR top up amyway?
Thank you to those who managed to read to the end 😉

You seem a little confused with your situation and which type of ESA you were claiming. As your ESA included the Enhanced Disability Premium, this would have been the Income Related top up. ( Known as Disability Income Guarantee on ESA letters) Therefore your ESA would have been contributions based, with an Income related top up. Known as Income Related.
When you claimed UC your Income Related ESA (Enhanced disability Premium) would have stopped 2 weeks later.
Your contributions based ESA would have then automatically converted to New style ESA.
For this reason there's nothing to backdate between the time your Income Related ESA stopped and you claimed UC. This is because UC now tops up your income.
It's also worth remembering that if your ESA didn't include the Severe disability Premium then you're actually better off by claiming UC. UC that includes the LCWRA element, pays more than ESA Support Group with the EDP.
I hope this helps.
