International Dog Day

The 26th August marks International Dog Day, but I thought I'd get in there early.

We had International Cat Day a few weeks back and It's about time our dog friends had their day. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of how great our canine friends can be and to get those pooches who don't have a family out of the rescues and into homes.

Sadly, I'm not in a position to own a dog at the moment, but I can tell you that as soon as I am you'll have to hold me back from bringing home half of Battersea Dogs Home 😉

I'll start us off by sharing two of my family dogs from over the years:

This is Finnegan, now sadly departed. I lived with my parents during lockdown and Finn the rescue lurcher helped me through all that with his cheeky personality and hilarious zoomies round the garden. He'd been through a lot himself before he made it to us, but he was a special guy who loved his cuddles despite being 90% made of legs:

And here's Pukka (yes, really!), another dearly departed furry friend. She's a black and white terrier cross. She was another one who helped me through some rough times. She used to sleep all curled up by my legs when I wasn't well and kept an eye on me through some difficult bits of my life. They always seem to know when you need them most. What a good girl.

Anyway, over to you:

Would you ever consider getting a rescue dog?

If you already have a canine companion, has owning or being around a dog transformed your life in any way? If so, how?

And an important question for the pooches themselves in case they're reading: Woof woof grrr yap woof ruff, grrr woof woof grooof? Let us know what they think 😉

And of course, let's see your pics please! We can never have enough dog pics!

This is Ming, he is a 16 Yrs and 7 months old Lhasa Apso. We have had him since September 2017 when his previous owner died. He sleeps a lot.

This is Teddy age 1. He is half chihuahua and I think half Yorkshire terrier ( Chorkie) he is tiny. He is such a beautiful boy and very loving.

@Rosie_Scope and @KJ2024 Thank you for making me smile today at the photos of your gorgeous dogs. They are both adorable 🥰

I have always had rescue dogs, and my current dog is the most cuddly little boy that I have ever known. How he came to be a rescue dog is beyond me, but not everyone’s circumstances remain the same. I am fortunate to have been ‘chosen’ by Gizmo to come and live with me in his forever home. He’s now 10 years old, and he still thinks he’s a pup!

    Meet Gizmo

Ming and Teddy look so sweet @KJ2024, thanks for sharing 😊

And Gizmo is adorable @older01, what a cutie!

Here's my parent's dog Moose when he was a puppy. He's almost fully grown now but he's still just as cute:

This is my parents dog, Sparky, or Sparkling as I like to call him 😊 He's a pure breed German Shepherd but has a wonky ear which I think makes him extra special. He looks quite intimidating when you first meet him but he's an absolute softie 😍

Thank you for the lovely messages and everyone else's beautiful dogs. We have only had Teddy since May and I couldn't imagine not having him. He had a few owners before us and he was only nine months old when we got him. My son calls Ming our fossil because he is 16 yrs and 7 months. We love him and I'm dreading the day we say goodbye :(
