Mobility car advance payment question

Hi

Firstly I apologise for yet another question regarding my mobility car, but I’m new to all this.

The car I ordered requires an advance payment, when I ordered the car I was told it wouldn’t be ready for collection until October, I told them that’s perfect because I wouldn’t have the advance payment until October. Anyway I had a call 2 weeks ago saying that the car is ready for collection, I told the dealers that I wouldn’t have the advance payment until October and that I did make the salesman aware of this when I ordered the car. He said he would talk to his manager, as of yet I’ve heard nothing back.

So my question is, will a dealership hold the car for 2 months?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Only the dealership can answer your question.

I think it's better to contact Motability to ask them.

hi as someone who used to be on the other side ( I was a sales manager in a car dealership for 20+ years) and used to sell Motability vehicles up until last December. When you place an order for a motability car if it is your first car. At the point of order the dealer sets an estimated delivery date. If you have made it clear you cannot afford the advance payment until October any car dealership with an inch of decency should honour that. However some dealers have very limited space so don’t like new cars hanging around. It can also mean your new car is prone to either damage / or the battery getting low etc if sat about. So the long and short it is up to the dealer. If they mess you about contact other dealers and find another car.

@hammers1970 were you aware of The Motability Foundation, which is the grants team that can help disabled people to fund the advance payment of a vehicle based on their disability needs? It’s not limitless, but it does help people to cover things like adaptions for their vehicle and advance payment of their new vehicle. Unfortunately, not everyone understands that they shouldn’t order a vehicle without having the advance payment in place. Once the vehicle is ordered, unless you require an adaptation in the future, i.e. your medical needs change, they cannot consider helping you. My first vehicle required a low advance payment due to size requirements for my equipment etc, and they were able to help me. They are a charity that works alongside The Motability Scheme. My advice would be to speak to your dealership and gain some clarity about your new vehicle. You could always contact The Motability Scheme about your new lease if you have any concerns. They were kind enough to speak to my dealership on my behalf recently about my upcoming car lease, but either way they can advise you. If it’s a case of the length of waiting time for your vehicle then unfortunately they cannot.

I hope I have been helping, best wishes to you ❤️

August is always a difficult month for car dealerships. Many people buying new cars will wait until September for a new plate. So I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to get your car sold before the end of August to meet their targets.
