Keir starmer press conference
Hi everyone, what did you think of the speech today?
I thought he kept focusing on riots and past government too much, for a lot of it. Then going back to it. Nothing on important things.

I've not seen it, will likely watch it when I'm done with work.
I think it was a bit of a mistake to go right into the summer recess. I think it would've been better to delay the recess so more could be done earlier.

I caught most of it. I think he was focusing on the riots as a way of showing that things really need to change in this country and they want to bring on that change. Kind of like a metaphor.
He also said what I was expecting, that things will "get worse before they get better." But he was mentioning "those with the broadest shoulders should share that burden" so it's sounding a bit more positive for the disabled.
The country has had far too many sticking plasters over the last 10 (or so) years, but it sounds like they're wanting to actually fix the injuries instead of just putting on more plasters.
As always, it's very early days.3 -
I listened to it. He did mention that the most burden should go on those with the broadest shoulders. I can take heart from that, a bit. We still have to see what Reeves intends for the sick and disabled, I hope that they don’t punish us for the mismanagement of the previous government and they close loopholes etc to make up for the shortfalls in the finances. Two months is going to be a long time.
