Labour saying will put up rents for social housing how much will this entail yearly

Hi @Catherine21. I've had a look and found this in the Financial Times Raising Social Rents - FT. It mentions that the rent will increase by the rate of inflation (currently 2.2%) plus 1%.

Rachel I really can't understand the eroding part of uc poppy has kindly tried to explain I just don't understand do you know how much you roughly lose over time

Transitional Protection erodes over time if you've migrated from legacy benefits and had a higher payment on those.

When everyone else gets UC increases in future, payments for people with TP just stay the same.

Eventually the people with TP will receive the same amount as everyone else on UC because of the erosion. Then they will start to get the increases each year the same as everyone else.

My understanding is that the 3.2% will be added on to whatever your rent amount is. For example, if it's £400, then you add 3.2% onto that, which is £412.80. The 2.2% is subject to change though as that is the current rate of inflation.

You're in the Support Group for ESA so your UC will include the LCWRA element from the start of your claim. At the moment this is £416.19/month. You will then have the standard allowance, housing element and Transitional Protection. Council Tax reduction continues from your local authority.

That's impossible to answer because it will depend on a person's circumstances. UC is one benefit made up of many different elements and it's not one size fits all.
