Hi all,my problem and question is that I have to leave the sheltered accom I'm living in (PlacePlaces for people).

I'm not much of knowing much of the dhss world, im 59 years old and am quite disabled ( a friend is helping me to type). I have been awarded the enhanced element of both PIP components and the award for LCWRA , could or would anyone be able to let me know how much the UC would pay me as the rent element as I plan to rent a house as home, i already know of the bedroom tax 14% per extra room, but can not seem to be able to get a understandable explanation from the UC.

Or would anyone know of a expert outlet dealing in these matters they could recommend,

Many thanks Gary

Will you be living in social housing or privately rented? Bedroom tax only applies to social housing, if you have a spare bedroom.

For social housing, you'll be entitled to all of your rent minus the 14% if you have 1 spare bedroom. If you need regular overnight care you can claim for the extra bedroom, which will mean no spare bedroom tax.

If privately renting the bedroom tax doesn't apply. If you're a single person then you'll be entitled to the 1 bedroom rate of Local Housing Allowance. (LHA) If there's a shortfall of rent you can also claim for an extra bedroom if you need regular overnight care, this would mean you'll be entitled to the 2 bedroom rate of LHA, or all of your rent will be paid, which ever is lower.

Sorry I can't tell you the exact amounts, without more details. You can check the LHA rates here.

Hi @Gaz9, looks like you're well on the way to getting answers with Poppy's advice. I don't have much to add that Poppy hasn't covered, but I just wanted to say hello and welcome you to the community anyway!

Best of luck finding a place to live and getting everything sorted 😊
